Just like kids awaiting the newest iPhone, Disney lovers eagerly anticipate new & improved park experiences. Who doesn't get excited about a new ride, updated attraction, or character they've never seen at the parks?
Thankfully, Disney loves to keep guests on their toes with new features. And one of the newest--and most initially confusing--is Genie+.
While the days of free FastPasses are sadly over, you can still bypass those looooong wait times!
For someone who hasn't used it before, Genie+ can be an overwhelming experience. I'm not going to lie: when I first bought one, I was petrified I was going to mess it up and ruin our whole trip. But I'm happy to report it was WAY easier than I anticipated. In fact, on our most recent trip, we successfully went on every. single. ride we wanted thanks to planning ahead and Disney Genie+!
What is Genie+? (AKA Disney Genie Plus)
Genie+ is a PAID service that helps you skip the lines at Disney World or Disneyland. Genie+ prices differ each day: a more popular week, for example, will be more expensive than a less-crowded one. You can check the price right on your My Disney Experience App.
How can you get Genie+?
Step #1
✨ Download the My Disney Experience App
Step 2
✨ Click on "Disney Genie+ Service" in the app's homepage, highlighted in purple.
Important note:
You can only purchase this service the day of your visit! Set a timer for midnight, then purchase Genie+ for when you wake up and head to the park.
How does Disney Genie+ Work?
Genie+ works by letting you reserve an arrival time at an attraction. When you arrive, you simply use the Lightning Lane entrance to speed through the line!
In the My Disney Experience app, you'll be able to select the members in your party (up to 12 people), see the current cost for each attraction, and purchase the passes. Once paid, you're ready to use Genie+ for that day.
Here's how to purchase your Genie+ passes each day:
➡️ If you are staying ON Disney property:
Set your alarm for 7 am, when the Genie+ selection process opens for the day. (Set it a few minutes earlier if you'll need time to wake up first!). Then, jump on the app and make your first selection!
➡️ If you are NOT staying on Disney property:
You can make your first selection at the time the park opens that day! Important note: you can only select one ride pass at a time! You can make your second selection two hours later. To remember to make your next choice, set an alarm for two hours after you make your first one. Luckily, if you forget to set that alarm, your app will tell you the exact time you can make your next selection.
Which rides are Genie+ eligible?
I'm so glad you asked! Check out the handy dandy graphics below for the rides you can use with Genie+. Note that these are subject to change, but this is current as of February 2023.
Keep in mind that a limited number of passes are available each day, and they can sell out! Be sure to map out your favorite rides and then book your #1 ride first each day.
Here are my personal favorite Genie+ eligible rides:
Magic Kingdom | Hollywood Studios | Epcot | Animal Kingdom |
Peter Pan's Flight | Slinky Dog Dash | Remy's Ratatouille Adventure | Kilimanjaro Safari |
Jungle Cruise | Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway | Frozen Ever After | Na'vi River Journey |
Space Mountain | Rock'n'Roller Coaster | | |
Is Genie+ worth it?
In my opinion, yes! Disney lines can be notoriously long on busy days, especially at the more popular rides. Spending a little extra to get through those lines quicker (and save my family's sanity!) make Disney Genie Plus totally worth it to me.
Have you used Genie+?

Yes, and I didn't like it
